5^th Annual Albert Schweitzer Leadership for Life International Youth Leadership Conference

Dates: July 27-August 3, 2013 at The National University of Ireland-Maynooth in Dublin, Ireland.
Hosted by the Albert Schweitzer Foundation and our International Partner-Foroige

Overall Aims:

ICCUSA and our international partner Foroige will host our 5th Annual Albert Schweitzer Leadership for Life Conference in Dublin, Ireland. The week-long education program for the conference was developed by Foroige’s best practice unit (BPU) which is currently being evaluated by the BPU in conjunction with the National University of Ireland, Galway and Penn State University. The ASLFL program is open to young adults aged 15-18 who have demonstrated good leadership abilities within their own community and aspire to be our next generation of leaders. The conference will provide all students with a unique, cross-cultural learning experience, via lectures, workshops and team-building exercises. The goal is to engage and inspire the students to become leaders and good stewards of their world; particularly focusing on: community service, skills development, multi-culturalism, health & well-being and environmental solutions.

Objectives:

• Participants will be able to:
• Understand the key concepts/ideals that drive the leadership programme
• Discover personal strengths, passions, motivations that inspire them to be leaders
• Clarify and develop personal values that enable them to be good leaders
• Develop a clear vision of the difference they would like to make to society/local community
• Set clear specific goals and develop action plans to achieve them
• Practice specific leadership skills such as planning, problem solving, critical thinking and working effectively with others
• Practice communication skills that best influence and involve others
• Put together a learning plan to improve their own leadership abilities and achieve their goals
